Notes on the videos-What are the key ingredients in creating a suspense film?

Image
Video 1 was unavailable  Video two:  From this video we can see three films building up in suspense. The three films were jaws, the colour purple and Munich. From these clips we can see one of the main ingredients are by using close ups to limit the audiences view therefore creating a claustrophobic feel and only giving a limit amount of information and codes in each shot. Another key ingredient to help build suspense is the use of music in each scene. For a suspenful sen, the music used can add so much suspense  Video three:

Breaking Bad - Essay

This essay was timed 45 minutes   "Explain how the meaning is created using the four technical areas, in the following clip." In this scene from Breaking bad, both age and gender are represented. For age, older generations of men are depicted as knowledgeable and very pulled together, while the younger teenage men are conveyed as incompetent and on the wrong side of the law. Gender is represented by portraying men with dominant personalities as well as being territorial. Using men rather than women stereotypes women as being the damsels in distress without any intention to break the law or harm humanity.  From the first cut of this clip from ‘breaking bad’ sound is already revealing to the audience a lot of key information about the setting. For example, an intercom is used in the background to indicate the setting is a a large shop. The use of silence between dialogue is very impactful as it initiates tension and suspense which suggests a fight may be about to happen causing...

Downtown Abbey Representation practice + essay notes

Image
Who (out of the 7 core representation areas of society) are being represented in this clip?  (you can choose more than 1 category if you feel it's relevant) Status is being represented. we can see through the activity of the different classes and they way they are both presented through costumes, music and mise-en-scene 2. How are they represented to us? (what messages are we told about these groups? What are they like? What are their lives like? What are we encouraged / persuaded to think about them?) we are told through the conveying messages that there are two separate groups in the household. the lower, hard-working class and the the higher more luxurious family who expect the lower class to do their duties each morning. they are rich and well sophisticated. we know this through the wise words of Robert crawley who answered his daughter who had the question of; "I thought it was supposed to be unsinkable"(7:59) with; "Every mountain is unclimbable...

Bourne identity essay

Media studies  In this specific scene in the Bourne identity, produced by Universal studios and directed by Doug Liman, the camera angles create so much impact and unravel so many media codes within each shot. Some of the boats, including a pontoon have the key colours (red and blue-representing is future and past)We first get an establishing shot, which shows it is gloomy, cold and serious which also establishes it is not a very happy nor friendly place. It also brings a sense of government empowerment and control through the cold view of the docks, linking to the dangers he is about to walk into and brings through an environment that shouldn't be trusted.  As Bourne enters the new location off the boat onto the cold street, the camera zooms into his face, showing his confused and lost expression as he examines his surroundings, showing us he is still unsure and it makes the scene overall unfamiliar to both Bourne and audience. After the transition, we see the camera m...
